Affiliate Marketing Strategies

In this post I am going to reveal some very practical Affiliate Marketing strategies that will help you to pick profitable keywords to target for SEO purposes.

There are many things that I do to make sure that I select great keywords for search engine optimization, such as the competition level and the search volume, however one other important thing to do is check the viability of akeyword.

By this I mean, is the keywords likely to make money, and is it in an active niche where money is being spent. Recently I did a post on Google trends, so if you haven’t read that then here is the link: Best Selling Affiliate Products.

One easy way to check this is to use the free Google Search Based Keyword Tool. All you need to do is type in your intended keyword phrase and check out how much money per click Google suggests you would need to spend on PPC Advertising for it. If you see that at least 50 cents a click is the going rate, then this is a good indication.

Below is a screen shot for you:

affiliate marketing strategies

In the image above I have entered the keyword phrase “affiliate marketing” for example purposes. You can see where I have circled in blue that the price for this keyword is $3.77. This tells me that people are willing to spend money on this keyword, which is a strong indication to me that it is a viable option for me to go after for SEO.

Considering that SEO takes much longer than PPC marketing, it is important to select the right keywords from the start, otherwise you may regret it later. The last thing you want to do is spend weeks and months building links to a page so you can rank it for a particular keyword, only to find out later, when you are getting traffic from that phrase, that there is not much money in it.

This is one, of many simple but effective affiliate marketing strategies that you can implement for free, to help ensure you are building your sites on profitable keywords. I can’t stress enough how important it is to make sure you take the time to select the right keywords for any site you are planning out.

All the best

What about pre-empting keywords that don’t have good numbers now but might do in the future?

    Matt,
I have always used the External Keyword Tool and my Adwords account but this free Google Search Based Keyword Tool shows the suggested bid amount which I can’t find on the others without actually setting up a campaign. Maybe it is there but bookmarking this site is perfect. I always appreciate your tips of the trade. Of course what I do as well is to see if there are a lot of Adwords ads and then I check Amazon to see if a lot of people write about the subject or sell the products. Of course you can always check affiliate programs to see if they have products in your niche.

    Thanks Matt

Thank you Matt. If you have a lot of keywords that are priced high but see lower priced ones along the same niche that have a decent search volume, then wouldn’t those be worth using? Perhaps that keyword or phrase is just not as popular especially if it is a “buy” xyz?

Thanks Matt for the great tip on choosing Key Words that could be monitized. I didn’t know what the dollar amount would be and 50 cents sounds reasonalble.

I will use this tip for sure

    Hey Matt,
quick question about this. What’s the difference between the search volume of SKTool and the Google Keyword Tool? For example, I searched “party costume” on each and got 368,000 Global Monthly Searches on the Google Keyword Tool, but only 3,500 Monthly Searches on SKTool. Both were set to All Countries in English. Which is correct?
    Thanks!

Matt thanks for the tips. The keyword tool is a great free tool so many people do not know about. The combo of number of searches, the competition level and the suggested bid price is a great little formula for people to use.

    Matt,

How about that search volume. Don’t we have to be concerned that if it’s too high, then there is a good chance that there a lot of sites out there targeting this particular keyword and our chances of any decent rankings is close to none?

On the other hand, I wonder if we are better off targeting both a high ranking keyword as well as a related lower ranking keyword. The idea here is that we are really going after the lower ranking keyword but having that high ranking relevant keyword would boost our ranking in the search engines. Is my thinking correct?

In other words, would Google rank me higher (or faster) on a relatively lower rate keyword if I sprinkle a related high demand keyword on my page as well?

Hi Matt, thanks for sharing an informative article. The selection of right keyword is most important aspect of starting a website. One should aim for both one word and long tail key words. In fact, long tail keywords are with less competition and offers more targeted visitors to a website.

Great content Matt – love the value you bring. I have a question on the bonus WP templates with your CWS promotion. Are you aware of any kind of “viewer” that would allow one to quickly go through the index pages of those themes to preview? Perhaps there’s a way to do that through WP – sorry – a bit new to WP. Thanks -Scott

    Matt Carter Reply:

    Hey Scott

You can just double the index.html page in the folders themselves and your browser will show you a preview of that template.

    All the best
