How to Find Niche Markets 74 Comments
How to Find Niche Markets

In this post I’ll be explaining a very useful tricks on how to find niche markets and products to promote as an affiliate. I have included a video at the bottom of the post also.

When I first started out online, many years ago now, I struggled to know what niche to enter into.

These days I find it much easier and I want to share some tips on this for you all today.

The first peice of advice I will give you is, if you are someone that sticks exclusively to the Clickbank marketplace then the first thing you should do is start to do is look to other networks.

In particular physical goods, as there is a huge potential for marketing physical products, something I love to do!

Before I provide some practical tips for finding niches and products, I first want to clear up a few common misconecptions that people can have about physical products.

Aren’t the Commission Too Low With Physical Products?

The short answer to this is “NO!!” I get regular daily commissions of $75 on physical goods. There are some merchants that give you 50% commission on physical goods, although most are lower than this, but 4-10% is quite normal.

The thing you have to remember about physical products is that they are usually priced a lot higher than a Clickbank Ebook, so you can make great commissions still, even on products that only payout 4% like Amazon (although this goes up to 6% pretty fast)

Isn’t It Too Hard to Get Accepted by the Networks?

Again all I can say to this is “No” it’s not that hard. Sure some CPA affiliate marketing networks can be a little tougher to get into, but most physical product networks I’ve joined are easy to get accepted into. If you ever have any problems just pick up the phone and call them and explain to them your plan and you’ll get into 99% of them right there on the phone, I’ve done this many times.

Ok so now that I have cleared up some common misconceptions about marketing physical products, I want to share a practical tips on how to find a niche market. Below I have included a video for you:

I got started with physical products with IPK but it was your interview with Dan Brock that really got me going.

I’ve veered away from electronic products because I reckoned that they’d be very competitive and I think that amazon pays less commission on electronics. But I should probably go on the individual product.

    Thanks for the vidio Matt.

Thanks for the tip and all your great help and thanks for the introduction to Sara’s course. I have learned so much and not near the end. I have been pursuing affiliate marketing for over 2 years and would have liked to had her course way back then! I like the part of not having to spend any money to get started or ever!!

Matt you have been an inspiration to me. Just seeing your name in my email box gets my attention and just knowing I can go to your site and find so much helpful information that is not hard to navigate to is a plus for me.

Hi Matt, I have added physical products via Amazon, CJ and others. Problem I had was signing up for too mant at a time and not being able to devote enough time to each product vendor. I have have learned to take one project on at a time before adding newer products.

  20. January 28, 2011 at 8:09 am | Permalink

Hi Matt, very encouraging once more. I promote both digital and physical products, and I’m trying to find the best mix.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    SDBeachguy Reply:

Matt, I also found that marketing Clickbank products is almost impossible now and physical products are the way to go. I went one step further and coupled my online efforts to a health and wellness based network marketing company! Research problem solved as it is one of the largest markets on the web and I also attract and mentor business builders, probably the largest market on the web.
My results are coming faster as the competition isn’t as sophisticated and I don’t need to do deals to build a large list, the numbers of both consumers and business builders I need to be fabulously successful are much smaller because of how the network marketing compensation plan is built.
I would appreciate your thoughts on this!

EXCELLENT stuff, Matt!! (as always) πŸ™‚

I wanna ask you a question, if you don’t mind…

What do you look for when you do your Google Keyword search? Like, how many searches per month are good & I noticed you were looking at the local search & not the global search…. Why is that?

Your insight is SUPER APPRECIATED buddy!!!

Definitely gonna pass this onto my friends! πŸ™‚

    Keep rocking!

    Hi, Matt,

Great video, based on your experiences, do you think selling Clickbank’s product is much more competitive now than selling physical products on Amazon?

  25. January 28, 2011 at 10:11 am | Permalink

Good review. Searching for the best product is one of the most important parts of affiliate marketing. I have 10 wordpress websites with products in 10 different niches and I find it very hard to monetize them. If you use the wrong keywords in a competitive niche you won’t get any traffic. It’s a tough road to success but I believe in it.

    Hi Matt,

    Thanks for these tips.

One thing that I’m puzzled by is if you choose a domain name based on a product name, what do you do when that product becomes outdated/is no longer manufactured? All the work you’ve put into the site is dead. So I presume its a better idea to build a site using a generic name and then have pages which target specific keywords (product names) so the site retains its rankings in Google over time?

    Cheers

    Phil

    Matt Carter Reply:

    Hey Microsoft Office Training,

Yes if a product goes out of date then you will drop off in commissions, that’s just what happens sometimes, so you want to get rankings quickly and build more sites.

    Thanks

There was a question regarding using product names in domain names. Be very careful using brand names, model names and trademarks in domain names. I previously had a domain that included a trademark of a massive company. I was kindly asked by their lawyers to transfer the domain to them or else…needless to say I complied. However, all of the work that I did on that site was lost. Well, not lost…just someone else benefited from it πŸ™
    Another great video Matt!

I want to get into physical product sales from Amazon focusing on the high end products, maybe the commissions will be better there i.e. watches, designer handbags, Jewellery etc…I guess the keyword research would be the same as Clickbank research yes? Looking for terms with buyers intentions.

At the moment I need to master Clickbank to get regular commissions, then I am focusing on Market Health products then hopefully Amazon goods by the end of the year.

Nice video Matt – thanks. It goes without saying – avoid registering domain names with company names – i.e. – best Coach handbags.

    Hi guys,

Maybe its just me, but I have been searching and searching for physical products to promote as an affiliate on Amazon, but they all seem to be SUPER competitive.. Especially the ones that are ‘best-sellers’ on their list.

Is it that everyone has been doing this for a long time and there is too much competition out there?

It seems half the work and effort just goes purely to finding the right product to promote.

Any help will be really appreciated

Physical Products. I must be so new I didn’t know this. I knew amazon had some deal and just recently found out that one could affiliate for some travel agencys. I need to look into some more things so I can expand my horizons and possibly affiliate more things once I get settled in the one I am doing now so I don’t do too much at once and spread things out.

Finding profitable niche markets is a matter of using the right tools. Testing niches is for the lucky people who have
lots of money, time and patience.
Before putting effort in a particular niche you should already know that the niche is profitable. The testing part is only to determine your marketing strategies…

Finding the niche market for your site is very difficult and thanks for the information provided.
